Dolly's Imagination Library

A friend of mine just told me about a program called Dolly Parton's Imagination Library. This program is dedicated to encouraging reading and providing books to communities. If you have any children under the age of 5, you can sign up on their website to receive a free book by mail for each eligible child every month.

The only catch is that not all communities are a part of this program. When you reach the home page, you'll need to type in your zip code in the "Find Your Affiliate" box. If you have an affiliate in your area, go ahead and register here.

I know that my kids really enjoy reading and I feel so good about spending that (quiet!) quality time with them. This would be a great resource for us as parents and just another way to get our kids excited about learning. I hope that you're able to participate!

Thanks, Jill!

Kmart Gift Card

Glamour Magazine is sponsoring a promotion where you can get a $25 Kmart gift card when you spend $50 at Kmart. You must shop between March 10th and April 30th, then mail your receipt to Glamour.

It says you'll receive $25 for each $50 purchase you make, but I'm pretty sure they have to be separate purchases with their own receipts.

(I'd suggest keeping copies of your receipts on file along with the date you send your request, just in case your gift card doesn't arrive within the allotted time).

Try This Bread and Save Some Dough!

One of the ways my family saves money on groceries is by shopping at a bread/bakery outlet. Many states have them, and in fact, in our state, we have quite a few to choose from. I was a little skeptical to try bread from an outlet because I thought I would have to compromise quality for price. But what I didn't know is that these outlets sell the same bread you would buy in your grocery store, and at a lower price!

The outlet I frequently shop at does offer a large selection of day-old products and they are definitely much cheaper than the fresh bread. I usually just search through the items I want for the latest "sell by" date, and more often than not, I can get something that will be good for quite a few more days.

Our outlet has a featured product every day which is marked down to just a fraction of its regular outlet price. If it is a product that I know I will use a lot of in the future, I will buy a bunch of them and freeze them when I get home. I actually freeze all the bread I'm not going to use quickly and have been pleased with the results. As long as you let the bread thaw at room temperature, it seems to come out ok.

The other great thing about this store and others, I would venture to guess, is that there are opportunities for savings on top of the already low prices. I have a card that the cashier stamps every time I spend a dollar, and when it adds up to $12, I can choose one item in the store for free. This particular store also has several coupons in the Entertainment book for 50% off the purchase price.

As you can see, there are many benefits to trying out a bread outlet. What's the worst that could happen? If you don't like it, you don't ever have to go back again. If you do, you'll be adding another money-saving strategy to your life. I think it's worth a try, don't you?

Barbie Party at Toys r Us

This Saturday, March 14th, Toys r Us is hosting Barbie's Birthday Bash. They will be having fun activities for the kids from 12-2, like decorating your own party hat and Barbie coloring pages.

Also, if you haven't signed your kids up for Geoffrey's Birthday Club at Toys r Us, you should! The kids get a $3 gift card on their birthday, and while you can't always find something that cheap at Toys r Us, you can come pretty close. It makes the kids feel "big" when they can pick out their own toy and pay for it themselves with their gift card. If you're interested, follow the link here:
